"Skin rashes" is a general term that describes a group of spots, an area of inflammation, or changes in the colour or texture of the skin. Skin rashes may be associated with itching, burning, pain, swelling, or no discomfort at all. Some skin rashes affect the whole body (generalized); others appear on discrete areas of the skin. Skin rashes can be short-lived, recurrent or chronic.

Good skin care can accelerate healing and reduce the discomfort of skin rashes. It can also decrease the risk of secondary infection or scarring. Check with your doctor to ensure that the following skin-care tips are suitable for your particular skin rash:

•Avoid using artificial perfumed and coloured cosmetics such as perfumed body lotions, hand creams and soaps as they may cause skin irritation which leads to rashes.
•Use a mild soap, or just water, to clean the affected area.
•When bathing, use warm, not hot, water. (Very hot water will dry out your skin.)
•Don’t scrub your skin. Ideally, use your hands, not a wash cloth, to apply soap.
•Take showers or quick baths. (Long soaks dehydrate your skin.)
•Dry your skin gently, by patting, not rubbing, which can remove important natural oils.
•Keep your skin well-moisturized throughout the day but avoid moisturizers that clog the pores or are highly perfumed. Best time to apply a moisturizer: immediately after patting dry.
•Wear natural fibers, like cotton, that allow air to circulate over affected areas.
•Apply cool or lukewarm compresses to itchy or sore areas.
•Avoid or minimize exposure to potential irritants, like harsh household cleaning products.
•Humidify the air in your home if you have dry skin, especially in the winter months.

Home Remedies:

•It is an excellent component of good skin care, whether prevention, symptom relief or accelerated healing of skin rashes is the goal.
•Emu oil contains natural anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving and bacteriostatic agents, which promote faster healing and help prevent scarring. As a moisturizer, it penetrates deep into the skin, without leaving a greasy film, and is non-comedogenic.
•Washing the affected area with chamomile tea.
•Applying olive oil to the rash.
•A mixture of cod liver oil and vitamin E is very effective in eliminating rashes.
•Grinding holy basil leaves, combined with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 2 garlic cloves, a pinch of salt and a pinch of pepper, and smearing over the rash.
•Taking an oatmeal bath is one of the best body rash treatments. Pour one cup of uncooked oatmeal into the bathwater and soak in this solution.
•Another extremely effective treatment is applying mashed almond leaves to the affected area.
•Vitamin C has strong antioxidant properties that can help heal rashes and reduce the chances of subsequent allergic reactions.
•Raw apple cider vinegar and raw honey are very effective in eliminating allergies. Take one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and honey three times a day or mix the apple cider vinegar and honey in a glass of water. The honey should be obtained from a local source.
•Another good remedy for skin allergies is to crush one tablespoon of poppy seeds, mix with one teaspoon of water and one teaspoon of lime juice and apply to rash.
